Shin OYA joined Sojitz Research Institute, Ltd. in August 2024, as Chief Analyst.

 

Before that, he experienced various positions at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), including Director, Asian Operation; Director, Oil and Gas Operation; Chief Representative for New Delhi office; Chief Representative for Strategic Research residing in Washington DC. From 2022 to 2024 he served as Director, Head of Tokyo Office, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

 

He also serves as Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG), a think tank in Tokyo.

 

He received his BA in Law from Tohoku University and his LLM from the law school at Boston University and passed New York Bar exam. He also received his M. Sc. in Finance from Business School at George Washington University.

 

He wrote many articles and op-eds on geo-economics and geo-politics. He published books, “The Era of Geoeconomics” (Chikeigaku no Jidai, single author, Jitsugyo no Nihonsha) in 2022 and “What is Economic Security” (Keizaianzenhosho towa nanika, co-author, Toyo Keizai Inc.) in 2024.
