Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani
Undersecretary ; General Secretary, Ministry of Labor ; National Committee for Combatting Human TraffickingNajwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani is the Assistant Undersecretary for Migrant Labour at the Ministry of Labour in Qatar (appointed July 2023), responsible for strategically enhancing and executing policies, regulations and systems related to the recruitment, protection, and management of the migrant workforce in Qatar in the private sector.
Recently she has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, and into the Board of Directors for Qatar Manpower Solutions Company – Jusour.
Her career spans diverse roles in strategic communications, international relations, and human rights advocacy. Coming from the human rights world, Al-Thani started her career at the National Committee for Human Rights in Qatar (NHRC), where she served as Director for International Cooperation, responsible for monitoring and enhancing Qatar’s international human rights commitments. She headed the coordination and cooperation with international and regional mechanisms, ensuring the execution of consistent relevant reporting, and enhancing strategic participation internationally.
Prior to her current position at the Ministry of Labour, Al-Thani served as the Director for Communications at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SCDL), the organization responsible for the host country Qatar’s preparations of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. During her tenure, she worked on collaborating with local and international stakeholders, particularly governmental, critical non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international organizations (IOs), playing a pivotal role in aligning the tournament's aims with global discussions.
Al-Thani’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Communications from the School of Communications - Northwestern University (NU) with a Certificate of Middle Eastern Studies, a Master of Science (MSc) in Global Governance and Diplomacy from The University of Oxford - Department of International Development (ODID). She currently is a doctoral candidate at Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHSS), pursuing a PhD in social sciences and humanities.
