Sean Carroll

President and CEO, Anera
Sean is a recognized international humanitarian and human development leader. He is a recipient of the Julia Vadala Taft Outstanding Leadership Award and the America's Community Council 2024 Global Humanitarian Leadership Award. As President & CEO of Anera and CEO of Anera Ventures, LLC, Sean leads a team of nearly 200 in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Washington, DC, overseeing the delivery of over $200 million in annual humanitarian and development aid to vulnerable communities in the Middle East. Since October 2023, Anera has delivered more than 44 million meals, over 1.2 million gallons of water, and over 6 million treatments of medicines in Gaza. Anera's work spans emergency and humanitarian relief, infrastructure and development projects in water, sanitation, education, and health, as well as economic growth programs, including agriculture and vocational upskilling. Prior to Anera, Sean held key roles at USAID, Creative Associates International, the US Congress, and the Club of Madrid, among others. He served as chief of staff and COO at USAID under the Obama administration, managing a $1.7 billion budget and 9,500 staff. Sean’s connection to the Middle East began over 25 years ago when he worked as chief of mission for the National Democratic Institute in the West Bank and Gaza. He holds degrees from Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins, and serves on several boards, including Creative Frontiers, InterAction, and PQMD.
