Renowned as one of America’s top foreign correspondents, Engel has covered wars, revolutions, and political transitions worldwide for over two decades. His acclaimed reporting includes the Syrian civil war, Egypt’s 2011 revolution, the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine.
Since becoming NBC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent in 2008, Engel’s reports have featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, TODAY, Meet the Press, Dateline, and NBCNews.com. His award-winning series, On Assignment with Richard Engel, combined deep field reporting with interviews in key global hotspots.
Engel has received numerous accolades, including eight News & Documentary Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. A Stanford graduate fluent in Arabic, Italian, and Spanish, Engel has authored three books about his experiences in the Middle East.
