Richard Engel is NBC News’ Chief Foreign Correspondent and co-host of the top-ranked Sky News podcast The World with Richard Engel and Yalda Hakim. Renowned as one of America’s top foreign correspondents, Engel has covered wars, revolutions, and political transitions worldwide for over two decades. His acclaimed reporting includes the Syrian civil war, Egypt’s 2011 revolution, the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

 

Since becoming NBC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent in 2008, Engel’s reports have featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, TODAY, Meet the Press, Dateline, and NBCNews.com. His award-winning series, On Assignment with Richard Engel, combined deep field reporting with interviews in key global hotspots.

 

Engel has received numerous accolades, including eight News & Documentary Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. Highlights include recognition for news documentaries American Betrayal, Mexico's Hidden Toll, and investigative reports on Russia, COVID-19, and ISIS.

 

A Stanford graduate fluent in Arabic, Italian, and Spanish, Engel has authored three books about his experiences in the Middle East. His 2008 documentary War Zone Diary earned the Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism. Engel’s dedication has cemented his legacy as a trailblazer in international reporting.
