Prof. Miriam Coronel-Ferrer

Co-Founder, Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators
Miriam Coronel Ferrer is co-founder of the Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators (www.seawpm.com). A former professor of political science at the University of the Philippines, she chaired the government panel that negotiated and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on 27 March 2014. From January 2018-January 2021, Prof. Ferrer was a member of the United Nations’ Standby Team of Senior Mediators. In this capacity, she provided mediation support to UN missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Maldives, Kosovo, Georgia, Southeast Asia, among others. She also supported various undertakings to advance women and youth inclusion in mediation and peace processes. A popular educator, Prof Ferrer has provided mediation training support for the UN and various international NGOs. Currently, she sits in the Board of Trustees of the International Crisis Group and Interpeace (by 2024). She is a member of advisory bodies of Harvard University’s Negotiations Strategies Institute, the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders, and the Peace Treaty Initiative.
