Olumuyiwa Olasunkanmi Aina
Executive Director and CEO, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency of NigeriaDr. Muyi Aina is the Executive Director and CEO of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Nigeria, where he is leading efforts to reform the Nigeria's primary health care system. His goal is to ensure that all Nigerians have access to equitable and high-quality health services through a trusted system. He is rebranding NPHCDA to make it fit for purpose to enable it transform the Nigerian PHC system, including addressing infrastructure gaps, improve the availability of health workers, and increase federal funding for primary health care facilities. Dr. Aina is also strengthening routine immunization and redesigning community engagement to ensure 24/7 access to integrated health services at local PHC centers.
With over 25 years of experience in healthcare leadership, consulting, and research, Dr. Aina has led various public health initiatives, including health systems development, healthcare financing, and global health security. Prior to his appointment as NPHCDA CEO in 2023, he was a senior management and health systems consultant.
He holds an MBBS from the University of Ilorin, an MPH in International Health Policy from Harvard, and a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University. He has professional certifications from Johns Hopkins, Cambridge, and Stanford. Dr. Aina has helped design HIV/AIDS programs serving over 700,000 people across multiple countries and published 27 articles with about 7,000 reads and 350 citations.
