Matthew Bamber-Zryd

Dr Matthew Bamber-Zryd is the Adviser on Armed Groups at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), based in its Geneva headquarters. At the ICRC, Matthew supports the ICRC’s engagement with armed groups across a range of contexts.cPrior to joining the ICRC, Matthew worked on conflict and armed groups for different governments and international organizations, conducting field missions in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. He has provided expert testimony to different governments and is an appointed member of the Expert Research Group at the Swedish Agency for Peace, Security and Development (Folke Bernadotteakademin).Matthew holds a PhD in Political Science/International Relations from the Graduate Institute, Geneva. He holds fellowships at both the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding at the Graduate Institute, Geneva and the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University. Matthew’s work on armed groups has been published in academic and policy journals.
