James Bays
Diplomatic Editor and Principal Presenter, Aljazeera Media NetworkJames Bays covers global diplomacy, defense, and development issues for Al Jazeera English. He also serves as a Presenter of Aljazeera’s ‘Inside Story’ and ‘Talk to Aljazeera’ programmes. James, is an award-winning correspondent, who in the last quarter of a century, has travelled to more than 70 counties and has reported from numerous conflict zones, including Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Panama, the former Soviet Union, Israel and the Palestinian territories. In his previous post at Al Jazeera as a roving correspondent, James frequently reported from Baghdad and Kabul. During the so-called Arab spring, James has covered events in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, and Syria. In 2016, James was one of the moderators of a debate, broadcast live on Aljazeera, between the candidates to be the new UN Secretary General. Among the global figures he has interviewed: Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Yoweri Museveni, Pervez Musharraf, Hamid Karzai, John Kerry, Margaret Thatcher, Sheikh Hasina, Saad Harriri, Antonio Guterres, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Pedro Sánchez. Before joining Aljazeera, James worked for fifteen years as a Correspondent with Britain’s Independent Television News.
