Born on July 12, 1967. Married to Mrs. Raquel Arbaje and father of three daughters, Esther Patricia, Graciela Lucía and Adriana Margarita. He is the son of businessman and political leader José Rafael Abinader W. and Mrs. Rosa Sula Corona C.
Mr. Abinader studied high school at Colegio Loyola and obtained a degree in Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC). Completed postgraduate studies in Project Management at the Arthur D. Little Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the United States. Also studied Corporate Finance and Financial Engineering at Harvard University and Advanced Management at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
Elected Vice President of the Dominican Revolutionary Party at the 2005 National Convention.
With extensive experience in the tourism sector, he served as Executive President of the ABICOR Group, which has developed and operated important tourism projects in the Dominican Republic. This family group led the business project of what is today Cementos Santo Domingo.
Mr. Abinader has been president of the Hotel Association of Sosúa and Cabarete and is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (ASONAHORES). Also a member of the Board of Directors of the O&M University Foundation.
Recognized by the State Congress of Rhode Island, United States, for his trajectory in the public, educational and business fields. He has also received recognition from the Mayor’s Office of Boston and the Massachusetts State Senate for his contributions to higher education, civic engagement and community service.
Former candidate for Vice President of the Dominican Republic for the Dominican Revolutionary Party in the 2012 presidential elections.
Luis Abinader was elected presidential candidate at the PRM convention held on April 26, 2015. His candidacy was elected with more than 70% of the votes, a victory recognized from the first bulletin by the rest of the candidates. Immediately, he received the support of former President Hipólito Mejía as the main competitor in the convention and the rest of the PRM leaders.
On July 5, 2020, he won the Presidency of the Dominican Republic with the support of 52.52% of the votes.
