H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazeer
Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Republic of YemenDr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazir is a prominent Yemeni political leader serving as the Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council since April 2022, with the rank of Vice President of the Republic. Born in Shabwah Governorate in 1979, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia and Law (2001), a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (2007), and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Malaysia (2010).
He began his career in student leadership before moving into academic, administrative, and political roles, progressing through several notable positions, including: Vice President of the Aden University Student Union (2001–2006), Dean of the Aden Institute for Health and Administrative Sciences (2006–2009), and member of the academic staff at the University of Aden since 2007 and up to the present.
Dr. Al-Alimi has also held influential leadership roles within the Presidency of the Republic of Yemen, including Head of the Local Authority and Civil Society Organizations Department at the Presidential Office with the rank of Deputy Minister (2012–2015), Deputy Director of the Presidential Office with the rank of Minister (2015–2016), before being appointed Director of the Presidential Office with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister (2016–2022).
In addition, Dr. Al-Alimi led one of the most critical sovereign portfolios of the state, serving as the official responsible for the political file and for the negotiations with the Houthi group from 2015 to 2022. He continues today to oversee the political file and supervise the government’s negotiating team within the Presidential Leadership Council.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazir is regarded as one of Yemen’s most distinguished national leaders, recognized for his pivotal role in managing sensitive political files, and for his ability to combine academic expertise, executive competence, and political and administrative acumen with unwavering national loyalty—free from partisan and regional alignments—during a critical period in the country’s history.
