H.E. Abdoulaye Diop
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Republic of MaliCareer diplomat, Minister Diop has a long experience in strategic and political positions, both at national and international levels. He was the Diplomatic advisor to the first President of the democratic era in Mali, and then to his successor, before representing Mali in Washington D.C as Ambassador to the United States. His international career led him to the United Nations, where he headed the World Food Program (WFP) Africa Office to the African Union and the Economic Community for Africa (ECA) in Ethiopia and was WFP Director in Malawi. He also served as Chief of Staff of the President of the African Union Commission. Combining his passion for football with his professional skills, Minister Diop has also been an independent member of the FIFA Governance and Control Commission.
Fully committed to taking into account the principles set by the Head of State of Mali regarding the conduct of public action, Minister Diop, through his committed and at the same time subtly diplomatic positions, embodies to international actors and a large part of African civil society the vision of Mali’s refoundation: “Mali Kura”.
H.E. Abdoulaye Diop holds the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali for the second time since his appointment in June 2021. He is committed to putting his rich experience, network of international contacts and expertise in crisis prevention, management and resolution at the service of the ideals and values defended by Mali, the Sahel and Africa.
Committed to the search for a lasting solution to the crisis in Mali, he led the government delegation during the negotiations that led to the cessation of hostilities between the Malian army and rebel movements.
Graduate of the ENA in Algiers and the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, Honorary Doctor in Public Service from the University of Chatham, Pennsylvania, USA, HE Abdoulaye Diop is a passionate artisan of culture for peace. In this capacity, he initiated the strategy of cultural diplomacy in Mali.
