H.E. Abbas Araghchi

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, a seasoned diplomat with over three decades of experience, currently serves as the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Born in 1962, Araghchi has consistently demonstrated his expertise in international relations, shaping Iran’s foreign policy on pivotal matters.
 
Araghchi holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the Faculty of International Relations of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He further pursued a master’s degree in political science at the Islamic Azad University and completed a doctorate in political thought from the University of Kent, England.
 
Araghchi’s career in diplomacy is extensive. He has previously served as Iran's ambassador to Finland and Japan. Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held various significant roles, including spokesperson, legal and international deputy, and political deputy during Iran's 12th government. In 2013, he joined Iran’s nuclear negotiating team, playing a critical role in the landmark Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement.
 
From September 2021, Araghchi served as the Secretary of Iran's Foreign Relations Strategic Council.
