Gilles Cerutti
Head of the Humanitarian Diplomacy Section, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Switzerland
Gilles Cerutti is the Head of the Humanitarian Diplomacy section at Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. He oversees Switzerland’s engagement in the field of Humanitarian Diplomacy, Multilateral Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Disarmament. He has 20 years of experience in humanitarian work and foreign affairs. Between 2019 and 2021, Mr. Cerutti was the Strategic Advisor to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Before that, he worked for the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in various postings at the United Nations in New York, at Headquarters, and at the Representative office of Switzerland to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah. Before joining the FDFA, from 2004 to 2011, Mr. Cerutti worked with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the occupied Palestinian territory, with the ICRC in Darfur and Colombia, and with NGO Terre des Hommes in Brazil. Born in 1979, Mr. Cerutti holds an MA in Social and Political Science from the University of Lausanne, and an LL.M in International Law from the University of London.
