Dr. Thomas Volk is the Head of the Middle East and North Africa department of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) since August 2024. He holds a PhD in Near- and Middle Eastern Studies and previously headed the foundation's Senegal/Gambia office based in Dakar from 2016 to 2020 and then the regional program Political Dialogue and in the Southern Mediterranean based in Tunis from 2020 to 2024. In 2023, he also re-established the Foundation's activities in Egypt. Dr. Volk has been working for the Foundation since 2014, initially as Coordinator for Islam and Religious Dialogue. He studied Islamic Studies and History in Freiburg, completed a German-Turkish Master's program in Ankara and Berlin and received his doctorate from the University of Basel.
