Museum in Doha, and the IM Pei Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture at the University of Oxford. Among his research interests are early Qur'ans, Umayyad art and architecture, Arabic illustrated manuscripts, and late Ottoman calligraphy. In 2024, he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy.
