Ambassador Al Assad Worked for over 45 years within the system of the League of Arab States. In 2002, he established the Department of Disarmament & Arms Control within the Arab League. He was responsible for coordinating Arab positions on arms control and disarmament issues at different international forums and proposing policies to Arab League’s decision taking bodies. From 2010 to 2014 he was appointed “High Representative of the Arab League Secretary General for Disarmament and Regional Security”. From 2014 to 2018 he was appointed Permanent Observer / Ambassador of the League of Arab States to Austria and to the International Organizations in Vienna. Then from 2018 to 2022 he worked as an Expert / Advisor to the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons in Qatar. He is a member of a number of research centers & think tanks, advisor to UNIDIR. on ME Project Member of the Advisory Board of the UNSG on Disarmament Matters (2013-2017), Member of the Council of International Pugwash and the Executive Board, since 2013 until now. Member of the Board of the Vienna Centre for Disarmament & Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) 2014 - 2018. He has a number of published papers and articles.
