Michael OHNMACHT is a European diplomat with over 25 years of experience in the field. Michael currently serves as Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the European Union Delegation to Syria. An experienced diplomat, he has served as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the State of Libya in his previous posting. Before serving as Ambassador, he held several managerial positions in the German Foreign Office – as Head of Middle East Division, and in earlier years as Deputy Head of Mission of the German mission to both Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. OHNMACHT’s work experience also spans over German-French cooperation as he has served as Counsellor in the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Deputy Secretary General for French German Cooperation. Michael’s connection with the Middle East is not new, as apart from him living in Damascus during his studies, he had assignments in Tripoli and Ramallah, in addition to those of Beirut and Riyadh.
